Henebery, Portnascully

Return to Mooncoin Families

The first recorded members of this family is Nicholas Henebery, Ballybrazil (Born 1749) who married Margaret McKey, Ballynamantain (Born 1754) on the 6th Feb 1777.

More than likely Nicholas' father is the Thomas Heneberry buried in Portnascully (No 25), especially as Nicholas' first born son was called Thomas.

Here Lithe the Body of Thoms Heneberry Who Departed This Life February the 20th 1777 Aged 60 Years. Erected by John and Nicholace Heneberry

John is more than likely Nicholas' brother who remained in Ballybrazil and is the father of the Thomas Henebery listed as residing there in the 1821 census.

In the 1821 census Nicholas is listed as being in partnership in a Mill in Portnascully with his neighbour Thomas “Ceoil” Walsh in addition to holding 20 Irish acres of land.

This Mill is not the "Na Coille" mill that exists to this day, but rather one on the road to Rathkieran that shows up in the 1837 OS Map and is gone by the time of the 1888-1913 OS survey
